Privacy

Traced Dialogic Assessment Tool is made by Alex Stein & Jacob Davidsen. In short: your projects, recordings and transcripts stay on your computer, nothing comes to us unless you send it, and there is no tracking. When you run an AI task, the text it works on goes to the AI provider you chose, with your own key.

The app

Your projects (.dialogic files) are on your computer, wherever you save them. They hold the transcript, the course material, key ideas, matches and AI results. Recordings and slides stay where they are: a project only refers to them.

In its settings folder on your computer, the app keeps your AI keys, encrypted by your operating system; what each AI run cost; preferences, recent projects and the window's position; a recovery copy of unsaved work; waveforms of recordings; ffmpeg, if it downloaded it; and logs. Preferences ▸ Advanced ▸ Settings folder opens it. There are no analytics, no telemetry and no account.

AI tasks

Only when you run one, with a key you added. The task sends what it needs to the provider you chose for it, OpenAI or Anthropic: the course material, to find its key ideas; the key ideas and the transcript's text, to find where they come up, check keyword matches, find the questions asked, find conversation-analysis themes or summarise how a keyword was used. Recordings and slides are never sent. The provider handles the text under your agreement with them and their privacy policy (OpenAI, Anthropic). We never see it. The app also asks each provider which models your key can use.

Exam transcripts are about real people. Before you send students' exams to an AI provider, check that your institution's rules on student data allow it, and whether the students should be told.

Going online

Unless you turn it off (Preferences ▸ Updates), the app asks GitHub — where releases are published — whether there is a newer version. When it starts, it also fetches the current list of AI models and their prices from GitHub. GitHub sees your IP address and the app's version, as it does for any download; see GitHub's privacy statement. With automatic updates on, the update itself is downloaded through update.electronjs.org, a free service run by the Electron project.

If you ask the app to download ffmpeg, it fetches the list of download sites from GitHub, then the files from the site listed for your system.

Feedback and error reports

A report is sent only when you choose to send it, from the app or the Feedback page. It contains what you write; your email address, if you give one; and, from the app, its version, your operating system and version, the Electron version and your language. If the report is about an error, the error message and technical details are included unless you untick them; the end of the app's log only if you tick "Include recent activity". The app shows you all of it before sending, with your home folder's name replaced by ~.

Reports go to a small service of ours, which files them as private issues in our GitHub repository, where only the developers can read them. The service keeps nothing itself and logs only that a report arrived. We use your email address only to reply about your report. Ask us at the address below and we'll delete a report.

This website

No cookies, no analytics. The Download and Changelog pages ask GitHub's API for the latest release from your browser. Your choice of light or dark theme is kept in your browser's local storage.

Terms of use

Traced Dialogic Assessment Tool is free to use. You are responsible for having the right to work with the recordings, transcripts and course material you open, and for your use of the AI providers.

AI results can be wrong. Treat them as an aid to the examiner's judgement, never as an assessment in themselves.

The app is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind; to the extent the law allows, the developers are not liable for any loss arising from its use — including loss of data, so keep backups of what matters. See the licence for the full terms.

Licences

Traced Dialogic Assessment Tool is released under the MIT licence, published with the releases. It is built on Electron, React and other open-source software, whose licences are included with the app.
